Title: How your SubGenius.vip account works
Post by: BtcBob on Aug 04, 2026, 11:32 PM
One signup at subgenius.vip (https://subgenius.vip/) creates a single account, and that account brings three things with it:

You don't request the mailbox or the DNS name separately. Both are created automatically a couple of minutes after you sign up.

Mail

Your @subgenius.vip address can receive mail as soon as it exists. Sending is switched off by default and is enabled per account — ask in this board if you need it, and it goes live within a few minutes of approval.

Webmail is at mail.subgenius.vip (https://mail.subgenius.vip/).

Signing in

Your account page has:

After 5 failed sign-in attempts the account locks for 15 minutes. That limit is enforced centrally, so it applies no matter which of our sites you tried to sign in from. The site you sign in at never stores your password — it checks it centrally and keeps only the fact that you're you.

A sign-in lasts 14 days of inactivity, and 30 days maximum, before it asks again.

What signing in does NOT cover

The dyndns control panel asks you to sign in again. That is on purpose, not a bug. That panel edits live DNS records, so it holds itself to a much shorter session — 1 hour idle, 12 hours maximum. Handing it the longer session from the main site would quietly downgrade it to the weaker of the two policies.

The forum has its own login box — but your ViP account works in it. Signing in at subgenius.vip does not carry you across to here, so the forum will ask you for a password. Give it the same username and password you use at subgenius.vip. If you arrive using the Forum link on your account page, your username is filled in for you.

Questions about any of the above go in this board.
